Compostable plastic additive manufactured by BioSphere Plastic is “Poised to Pass the ASTM D6400” according to third-party lab facility Eden Research Labs of Albuquerque, NM. Thomas Poth of Eden Research Labs has conducted this testing in accordance with the ASTM D5338 which is the testing method of the ASTM D6400 standard, Equivalent to the ISO 14855 for International Standards. The ASTM D6400 Standard for Compostability requires 60% biodegradation of the material within 180 days of composting. BioSphere compostable additive has enhanced the ability of plastic articles to be consumed by microorganisms in the Aerobic environments of compost facilities.
Compostable plastic testing which is required to sell into the State of California under the claims of “biodegradable”, “compostable”, “degradable” or any words around the biodegradability of articles must have the ASTM D6400 standard test completed for sale into California. BioSphere is continuing to R&D their biodegradable plastic additive to allow a simple solution for manufacturers for use of their additive into the base resin at 30% by weight.
Currently, the R&D team at BioSphere is working on solutions for cost affordable products in the plastic industry for “greening” the world for future generations. BioSphere is currently working on their compostable product for use in Polystyrene, Polypropylene, Polyethylene (Low Density) in accordance with the ASTM D6400 and ISO 14855.
